Our Principal

Jill Roth

Jill Roth began her education career focusing on literacy skills. She has always believed literacy skills were the keys to unlocking a world of knowledge for children.

Her early teaching assignments were aimed at first- and second-graders as she taught daily intervention reading groups, writing fiction and non-fiction stories and providing enhanced reading support for children classified as gifted and talented. Jill cultivated a unique and engaging teaching style which capitalized on her creative skills and inspirational ideas to motivate students.

“I believe that children are naturally inquisitive and eager to learn. When the environment is safe and supportive, children are willing to take risks to acquire knowledge through self-initiated and teacher-initiated experiences,” Jill said. “Students must master basic skills and be provided the opportunity to develop higher order thinking skills to prepare them to be global thinkers who are able to solve problems and become future leaders.”

Her leadership skills were noted by many colleagues which prompted her to become a part of leadership teams which opened two new schools in the Adams 12 Five Star School District. She helped shape the educational environment for Mountain View and Rocky Mountain Elementary Schools. She’s gone on to serve in leadership roles at the state and local levels and become an assistant principal at Rocky Mountain Elementary School in 1999. From that post, she was selected as the principal at Leroy Drive Elementary School in 2002.

Her skills and leadership experience made Jill a valuable presenter for workshops at the local, state and national levels. She’s an award-winning educator who has earned the Distinguished Educator Award from the Institute for Development of Educational Activities.

Being selected to lead the IB Primary Years Programme is a natural progression for Jill and her educational philosophy.

“Research shows that when students are meaningfully engaged in learning, they acquire knowledge and mastery up to and beyond their grade level,” she said. “The IB Primary Years Programme is based on inquiry and meaningfully engaged learning. Students will learn through an inquiry approach in which they are engaged in seeking answers to their natural curiosities.”

Through this elite and unique program, Leroy Drive Elementary is a place where curiosity is turned into powerful knowledge.
