Leroy Elementary, An IB World School
Dear Leroy Families,
We are writing this newsletter with mixed emotions. We can’t believe it is already May and school will be ending on the 21st of this month. While we will have the great pleasure of seeing many of you when we return in the fall, we most certainly wanted to take a moment to say thank you to those families and especially our 5th graders who are moving on. We have appreciated all that you have done to support our students, staff, and the entire community this year. There have been many successes and celebrations both during normal school operations and during remote learning. As a staff we are saddened to not have the end of year celebrations and closure that are so important for students and adults alike.
As next school year approaches, please continue to check the Adams 12 and Leroy websites for information (including directions for Returning Students completing Online Check in for the 2020-2021 school year). Since this time is so uncertain it will be important to stay updated as things change quickly. Although many things are in limbo, we have continued to plan for next year and we have a few staffing updates to share with you. We are excited to have Stella Mastro move from second grade to art. We are thrilled Danielle Marshall is remaining with us and moving to second grade, and Amy Daniels is remaining with us and moving to fourth grade. We wish Gina Swank the best in her retirement for the Media Tech position. Susi Rice will now fulfill that role in the library. Leroy was funded for an additional half time Mild/Moderate Special Education teacher, and we look forward to welcoming Kristin Warrick. Kristin comes to us with over 20 years of teaching experience, many of those in Adams 12.
Please let neighbors with young children know that Kindergarten registration is now open at Leroy. They can look on our website for more information on how to register.
Family-School Relationships Survey Results
Thank you to all who participated in our annual Family-School Relationships Survey. At Leroy Elementary we had over 75 survey participants - your feedback is invaluable!
As we look at our family survey results, we also have the opportunity to compare it with staff and student data from the same survey to see feedback trends and themes over time to best meet the needs of our community.
At Leroy, we take family perceptions very seriously. You are our best partner in education. This data is reviewed by our administration and leadership team to see which engagement efforts have been successful, and where we may do more effective outreach.

As we plan ahead to next year, I want to share with you what we found encouraging from this survey and the areas of growth we discovered:
Areas to Celebrate:
1. 85% of families did not feel they had significant barriers to engagement (84% Adams 12)
2. 79% of families felt positive perceptions of the overall social and learning climate (71% Adams 12)
3. 78% of families felt their students showed ability to persevere through setbacks to achieve important long-term goals (69% Adams 12)
Areas of Opportunity:
1. 22% of families feel there are positive staff/family relationships (25% Adams 12)
2. 43% of families feel their child does not experience bullying (44% Adams 12)
3. 53% of families feel Adams 12 creates an environment in which they can engage (45% Adams 12)
We are exploring opportunities to increase staff and family interactions, including demonstrations of student learning, assembly and performance involvement, and timing/frequency of parent engagement meetings. Weekly Second Step lessons will continue in all classes, daily Connection Circles will continue, and Restorative Practices will continue school wide.
We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. These results allow us to continue initiatives you rated high and focus our attention on those areas where we can better serve your child. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Leroy Community Center
We would like to share with you the rollout of our new Leroy Community Board. This board contains announcements from your principals and coaches as well as videos from many of the Leroy staff. As time goes on, new content and announcements will be added so be sure to check back often. Our hope is that this board will be a way for you to engage with us virtually during this time of remote learning. It has many great resources for you and your family to continue to have a way to connect with the Leroy Community. We miss seeing your smiling faces everyday and hope that this will be a way for you to share those smiles and fun times with us in a safe virtual way! If you need help with a lesson or have a question, reach out for real time help via zoom. Be sure to look in your child’s learning board for the link to this page.
We wish you a safe and relaxing summer vacation! Please continue to find time for your children to read as much as possible during the summer break. Access to many remote learning options will still be available for practice. Children who read during the summer retain the critical decoding, word attack, and comprehension skills they learned throughout the year. These children also come into the next grade level as stronger readers.
Please continue to take care and be safe.
