September Newsletter

Leroy Elementary: An IB World School

September 2020

Dear Leroy Families and Community,

Happy September!  Seeing your learners return to school in the remote environment has been inspiring.  Students are adapting to this new format, and sharing their learning virtually.  We are excited to welcome students to Learning Pods the first week of September.  It is a great time to check that we have your current contact information, so please log-on to Parent Portal through  Our first parent group meeting of the year will be scheduled when we return to in person learning..

During the month of September, the PYP Learner Profile trait is Inquirers.  This will be discussed in your child’s class Community Circle.  Please ask your child about their class’s conversation.  Teachers may also be looking for the student showing the trait for the inaugural International Student of the Month, the last week of September.  During this virtual assembly, the class will be present to celebrate your child.  Families are invited and encouraged to attend.

We want to continue to highlight the importance of attendance.  Attending school regularly has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school.  While remote learning takes place from your home, attendance is still taken to ensure your child is safe and engaging in learning.  If your child will be absent from remote learning or a Learning Pod, please call the attendance line at 720-972-5478.

Apply now for meal benefits for the 2020-21 school year. Remember all families must reapply every year. During remote learning the district continues to offer meals at our drive thru locations and at schools where students are present for Learning Pods. Applications still need to be filled out during remote learning and to support district funding.  Apply today at

Our Leroy website is full of helpful and up to date information and can be found at  The decision whether to continue remote learning or return to in person learning will be made district wide by 9/11/20 and posted on the website.  To continue our commitment of clear and ongoing communication and partnership with our families, a monthly school-wide newsletter will be available electronically.  Along with this communication, our website and Facebook page also have our latest “happenings”, and other regular Leroy updates and celebrations.

As a parent of a student at Leroy Elementary, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teacher who instructs your child. This is a requirement for all districts that receive Title I funds. Federal law allows you to request certain information about your student’s classroom teacher. The law also requires the district to give you this information in a timely manner upon request. Listed below is the information about which you have the right to ask for regarding each of your student’s classroom teachers.

• Whether the Colorado Department of Education has licensed or endorsed your student’s teacher for the grades and subjects taught.

• Whether CDE has decided that your student’s teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.

• The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and, if so, the subject of the degrees.

• Whether any teachers’ aides or similar para-educators provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.

Please contact Robyn Werpy in the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Human Resources Office at 720-972-4058 or if you would like to receive any of this information.

If you have a need for a Learning Pod placement for your child, please fill out this Learning Pod Waitlist form.

Student learning and safety remain priorities whether remote or in person.  We encourage you to contact us via phone or email with any questions, ideas, concerns, or compliments.  Again, it is an honor and privilege to serve your children and we look forward to continuing our work together.

Warm Regards,
