Leroy Elementary, An IB World School

May 2018

Dear Leroy Families,

Is it really almost summer?  We can’t believe this school year flew by so fast.  While we will have the great pleasure of seeing many of you when we return in August, we most certainly wanted to take a moment to say thank you to those families who are moving on.  We have appreciated all that you have done to support our students, staff and the entire community this year.  From our wonderful music performances, parent teacher conferences, and after school clubs, we have truly enjoyed partnering with you.

Join us for Skate City family night, Thursday, May 3rd, from 6-8pm.  Our final assessment day is right after that fun event.  On Friday, May 4th, students will only come to school at their scheduled time:

7:45-9:15 Last names beginning A-F

9:15-10:45- Last names beginning G-L

10:45-12:15 - Last names beginning M-R

1:00-2:30- Last names beginning S-Z

Our upcoming Celebration of Learning Evening will be a wonderful community event.  Please join us Thursday, May 17th, 5-7pm, to see the culmination of projects throughout grade levels.  We’ll continue the good feelings Friday, May 18th, with Field Day (see below for more specifics).

Fifth graders have two specific events before leaving Leroy.  The farewell dance is Thursday, May 10th, from 6-8pm in the Leroy gym.  Continuation is the last day of school, May 23rd, from 10-11am.

Our staff has worked hard this school year to provide the best teaching and learning in every classroom in order to meet each child’s academic, emotional, and social needs.  We hope you are pleased with the growth your children have made this year as evidenced in their report cards, MAP data, PALS data, writing samples, etc.  We are also looking forward to receiving the CMAS results for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in August.  We are confident that we will continue to see success and growth as we move into the next school year!

We are already busy planning for next year where we will continue to increase the amount of technology devices and our purposeful integration of technology into our instruction.  Because of  the voter approved Bond, Leroy will be able to purchase more Chromebooks and update the technology used in classrooms.

As next school year approaches, please check the website for updated class pages and an updated newsletter noting any teacher movement or new teacher hires.  We are excited to welcome LoriLynn Brownwell as a Mild/Moderate Special Education teacher, Courtney Beerman in 4th grade, Cassie Mulcahy in 1st grade, and Michelle Wilson will be moving from ELD to kindergarten.

Please let neighbors with young children know that Kindergarten registration is now open at Leroy. We have openings for both ½ day and full day sessions. They can look on our website of call the front office for more information on how to register.

We wish you a safe and relaxing summer vacation!  Please find time for your children to read as much as possible during this extended vacation.  Children who read during the summer retain the critical decoding, word attack, and comprehension skills they learned throughout the year.  These children also come into the next grade level as strong readers.

District News: It's that time of year again! The applications for the 2018-19 Five Star Leadership Academy cohort are now open.  It’s a parent and community group that meets monthly to learn the ins and outs of public education, including how public schools are funded, how we choose curriculum, how we keep your kids safe and more.

This will be the fourth cohort Adams 12 has hosted and each of the last three have included an incredible group of parents and community who are interested and dedicated to the success of our students. We now have a strong group of alumni that are actively involved in their school and our community. Will you help us keep it going?
