Leroy Elementary, An IB World School
Dear Leroy Families,
We hope this first month of 2020 has been a great one for all of you! It’s hard to believe that we are already on to February and soon spring will be upon us. We appreciate all you’ve done to support your children with being on time to school each and every day. Please join us for a Parent Group Meeting Wednesday, February 5th, from 7:45- 8:45 am.
February is parent/teacher conference time!
We look forward to sitting down with you to discuss your child’s progress. Conferences will take place all day Wednesday, February 12th. Please sign up for a time to meet with your child’s teacher via Sign Up Genius. Your child’s teacher will communicate with you regarding instructions. Students will not attend school Wednesday, February 12th through Monday, February 17th. Teachers have in-service time Thursday and Friday. Monday is President’s Day.
2019-20 Family-School Relationships Survey
During the 2017-18 school year, Adams 12 Five Star Schools pursued a year-long engagement process to determine the district’s new strategic plan, ELEVATE. What we discovered through that process were district strengths as determined by our community. Two of the identified strengths are collaboration and engagement, pillars of how families, students and staff work together for the success of your child. One way we continue to live out our strengths is to evaluate how well we are working together and engaging families at our school in order to provide the best learning opportunities for all students.
The annual survey will provide year-over-year feedback allowing us to measure trends over time so we can continue to best serve you and your child. The survey is specific for our school and will help us know where we are succeeding and where we can improve.
· The survey is open from January 27 - February 19, 2020 and is completely anonymous.
· The survey is expected to take between 5-10 minutes and can be taken in English, Spanish or nine other languages on your smartphone, tablet or computer.
· If you have children at different schools, we ask that you fill out a survey for each school.
· Survey data is benchmarked nationally and compared to the Five Star staff survey to create a comprehensive understanding of the school’s culture and climate. Survey results will be made available to families by the end of the school year.
Thank you in advance for taking this important survey as we work together to continue to elevate the way we serve your child in every classroom, every day. Click here to access: Family-School Relationships Survey

PARCC/CMAS tests beginning in March
As a state-wide measure of student achievement and growth, all of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will once again take the state PARCC/CMAS tests beginning in March. These literacy and math assessments are online state assessments in which all students across Colorado participate. Please check our school’s website toward the end of this month for a schedule with exact dates and times for these assessments to ensure your child is in attendance each day. In addition to attendance, you can also support your child during this assessment window by getting them to bed early the nights before, building their confidence and self-assurance, and getting plenty of exercise. You can also visit Parent Resources for test tips and information.
We are continuing our partnership with Horace Mann to celebrate those classrooms with the most days with perfect attendance. We are looking forward to celebrating many other classrooms second semester! We also want to send out a reminder regarding partial absences. A partial absence for elementary schools is defined as a student entering class more than 60 minutes late but before the midpoint of the attendance period. This also applies to students being in class beyond the midpoint, but departing more than 60 minutes early. Please review the charts in the handbook on the school website for more information. Attending school regularly has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life. When dropping off and picking up students, please be mindful about not blocking neighbors’ driveways. Please do not block driveways even if you are remaining in the car, or will only be there briefly.
Please remember to use the crosswalk when escorting your children. There is so much traffic at drop off and pick up times that it creates a huge safety concern for students and parents entering the street without a crosswalk. We want to make sure we maintain a good relationship with our neighbors and ensure the safety of students and adults alike. Let us know how we can best support you and your family so that they can be here at school on time every day. We want your child to be successful in school!
We want to welcome some new staff members to our Leroy family. Please welcome:
*Sheila Byrnes who will be filling in as our Digital Literacy Partner for 2nd semester.
*Vicki Wilson is back supporting our kinder students while Ms. Kuhr is out.
*Mary Lee will be our 2nd semester art teacher.
