Leroy Elementary, An IB World Schoollogo-new ib

May 2021

Dear Leroy Families,

Is it really almost summer?  We can’t believe this school year flew by so fast.  While we will have the great pleasure of seeing many of you when we return in August, we most certainly wanted to take a moment to say thank you to those families who are moving on.  We have appreciated all that you have done to support our students, staff, and the entire community this year.  This year has held new and unexpected challenges, and we appreciate the way families rose to the occasion.

May 3rd- 7th is Teacher Appreciation Week. Your child’s teacher works hard to meet your son or daughter’s needs everyday. Please consider reaching out and letting them know you appreciate the important work they do everyday!  Leroy is lucky to have such a dedicated and caring staff!

Chromebooks and Chargers                                                                                                                        As the end of the school year approaches, we want to make you aware of our school’s end of year device collection process. We want to make sure that we have clean, working Chromebooks ready for students on the first day of school in August. To do this, we need to have these devices back over the summer so we can make necessary repairs and updates. This means that students must return their Adams 12 Chromebooks and chargers before Summer Break. Your student(s) needs to bring all of their district-provided Chromebooks and chargers to school onThursday, May 27th. Remote students will be able to return Chromebooks on Thursday, May 27th in the afternoon or on Friday, May 28th from 8-2pm to be checked in.

Join us for multiple end of year events.

Art Show  The 2021 District Art Award Show is virtual this year.  There will be a live link available on Leroy’s Website.

Staffing Changes: As this school year comes to a close, we would like to announce a few staffing changes and say goodbye to some amazing people.

  • After 21 years as our school registrar, Ms. Roxanne has decided to retire. She is the face of Leroy and will be missed tremendously.

  • Ms. Michele has accepted the position of registrar and has already begun learning the ropes. Ms. Michele has served as our Family Liaison for two years. She is excited to continue to serve Leroy in this new capacity.

  • Kinder teacher Ms. Kuhr will be leaving Leroy to begin a new adventure teaching in Thailand! We wish her the best and look forward to hearing about teaching in another country.

  • It is our great fortune to have Mrs. Kappan who has served as primary reading interventionist for  several years to move to the kindergarten position.

  • Ms. Travis (5th grade) will be moving back to Louisiana. Although Ms. Travis was only with us one year, we will miss her positive attitude and love for our students.

  • Ms. Teitelbaum, Assistant Principal, will also be leaving Leroy after this year. We thank her for her dedication to serving Leroy students, staff, and families. We wish her the best in her new AP position closer to her mountain home.

Calling all Kinders! Please let neighbors with young children know that Kindergarten registration is now open at Leroy.  They can look on our website or call the front office for more information on how to register.

Summer Explores! Free food, fun, and enriching activities for your Leroy students this summer! Some of our Leroy staff members will be providing some exciting opportunities this summer. Stay tuned for another message with specific details.

We wish you a safe and relaxing summer vacation!  Please find time for your children to read as much as possible during this extended vacation.  Children who read during the summer retain the critical decoding, word attack, and comprehension skills they learned throughout the year.  These children also come into the next grade level as strong readers. We look forward to seeing you in August!

Take care,
