January 2025

Dear Leroy Families,

We here at Leroy would like to wish you and your family a Happy New Year!  We hope the holiday season was filled with fun, relaxation, connection, and enjoyment. We also hope your children are ready to return to school and that they are refreshed and ready to work hard as we continue to work toward our school’s greatest goal of growing our students’ reading, writing, math, and social/emotional skills. We will continue to diligently support each student as they continue to give their best effort and do their most capable work. Any time you have available to support our goal is much appreciated. At home, please continue to carve out time for your child to read independently, read aloud to you, read with you, and then talk to you about their books. As always, if you are able to volunteer here at school, please call or visit the office for more information.

We are continuing to celebrate those classrooms and students with the highest attendance. As a reminder, attending school regularly has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.  Let us know how we can best support you and your family so that they can be here at school on time every day.  We want your child to be successful!

Please remember that the drop-off in front of the school is a “Hug and Go” lane. Please do not get out of your car in this lane. When dropping off and picking up students, please be mindful about not blocking neighbors’ driveway or stopping in the middle of the street. Please remember to use the crosswalk when escorting your children. There is so much traffic at drop off and pick up times that it creates a huge safety concern for students and parents entering the street without a crosswalk, especially during the winter months when our streets can be quite icy. We want to make sure we maintain a good relationship with our neighbors and ensure the safety of students and adults alike.

We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who supported families during the holiday season. A special shout-out to the Northglenn Police Christmas Crusade, the Educational Support Center (ESC), Perfect Holiday Gift Thornton, Target, King Soopers, and Precious Child for generously sponsoring over 90 families. Additionally, a heartfelt thank you to some very special parents who became "elves" during the last week before winter break: Tara Lopez, Andrea Munoz, Kelly Contreras, Megan Avila, and Treasa Garcia. Your dedication and support truly made the season brighter for our families!

As we return from an extended break in our school year, we want to reiterate ROAR behavior expectations with students. There will be a large focus of specific teaching of desired behaviors both in classrooms and during less structured times. Teachers and faculty will look to reinforce positive choices daily. Students are also taught strategies to differentiate between normal peer conflict and bullying. They are taught what they can do to solve normal peer conflict, and when to involve an adult in a bullying situation. It will continue to be very important for us to differentiate between the two.

ACCESS testing will take place during January for students learning English. This yearly assessment will access reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

There is no school for students on Monday, January 20, 2024 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

We will have a Parent Group meeting on Monday, January 27th from 1:45-2:30 pm.  We hope that you will join us and help plan our exciting second semester family activities.

In addition, with the weather changing on a daily basis, we want to remind you to send your children to school with their coats, hats, boots, and gloves. We will continue to go outside for recess each day. On the days that it is twenty degrees or colder, we will have indoor recess.

Again, we hope this holiday season was a delightful time of celebration for your friends and family.  It provides a great opportunity for all of us to give thanks for all that we are blessed with, including being a part of this special Leroy community.

Many thanks for your continued support!
