February 2023

Dear Leroy Families,

We hope this first month of 2023 has been a great one for all of you!  It’s hard to believe that we are already on to February and soon spring will be upon us.  We appreciate all you’ve done to support your children with being on time to school each and every day.

In Person Parent Connections
Please join us for Coffee with the Principals on Wednesday, February 1st, from 8:00-8:30 am for our English Speaking parents and Tuesday, February 7th for our Spanish Speaking parents.  This is an open format for questions and conversation. School updates will be provided as well.

World’s Finest Chocolate Fundraiser
We will have a World’s Finest Chocolate Fundraiser starting January 30th-February 10th.  Orders will be due on Monday, February 13th.  Proceeds from this fundraiser will help pay for staff incentives and busing for all field trips.  This helps to keep student fees at a minimum.  We appreciate your support.

February is Parent/Teacher Conference time!
We look forward to sitting down with you to discuss your child’s progress. Conferences will take place all day Wednesday, February  15th. Please sign up for a time to meet with your child’s teacher via Sign Up Genius. Your child’s teacher will communicate with you regarding instructions. Students will not attend school Wednesday, February 16th through Monday, February 20th. Teachers have in-service time Thursday and Friday and Monday is President’s Day.

Please help us provide Leroy staff with dinner for  Parent/Teacher Conferences. We are asking for food to be dropped off the day before on Tuesday, February 14th.  please sign up on the link -    It is very much appreciated.

The survey is expected to take between 5-10 minutes and can be taken in English, Spanish or ten other languages on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. It is open now through February 17th. CMAS tests beginning end of March
As a state-wide measure of student achievement and growth, all of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will once again take the state CMAS tests beginning in March.  These literacy, math, and science assessments are online state assessments in which all students across Colorado participate.  Please check our school’s website toward the beginning of March for a schedule with exact dates and times for these assessments to ensure your child is in attendance each day.  In addition to attendance, you can also support your child during this assessment window by getting them to bed early the nights before, building their confidence and self-assurance, and getting plenty of exercise.  Look for more information regarding how you can support your child in next month’s newsletter.

We are continuing to celebrate those classrooms and students with the highest attendance. We are adding a celebration for students who have nearly perfect attendance as we recognize that there are still times students truly need to stay home. We are looking forward to many more celebrations in the second semester! As a reminder, attending school regularly has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.  Let us know how we can best support you and your family so that they can be here at school on time every day.  We want your child to be successful!

With the recent cold temperatures, ice and snow, many safety concerns have arisen. Please remember the safety of our community is of the utmost importance. If you are dropping your child off for breakfast, do not arrive before 7:45 am as the gates will now be closed for bus transportation only. The gates will reopen once all the buses have left the premises. Please remember you can only drop your child at the cafeteria door starting at 7:45 am. If your child is not eating breakfast, they are not allowed on school grounds until 7:55 am when we have adult supervision. It takes a village to keep all of our children safe and we appreciate you partnering with us on this important concern.

Our next Building Healthy Communities event is on February 21st from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Educational Support Center (1500 E. 128th Ave).  In partnership with Ralston House, we will host a free course on understanding and protecting children from sexual abuse. Quality education empowers all people to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know. Come and learn about ways to equip yourself with skills to protect your child from predatory behaviors. This presentation is designed for adults and the material is not suitable for children. Childcare for children that are potty trained and are 3 years or older will be provided. You can learn more about the event and register here.
