FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER
February 2025
Dear Leroy Families,
We hope this first month of 2025 has been a great one for all of you! It’s hard to believe that we are already on to February and soon spring will be upon us. We appreciate all you’ve done to support your children with being on time to school each and every day.
There is no school for students on Monday, February 3rd due to Teacher Work Day. Mid Winter break is Monday, February 17th-Friday, February 21st and there is NO SCHOOL for students.
2024-2025 Family-School Relationships Survey Is Now Open!
To help us continually elevate your child’s educational experience, we encourage you to take our annual Family-School Relationships Survey! The survey is specific for our school and will help us know where we are succeeding and where we can improve. The survey is expected to take between 5-10 minutes and can be taken in English, Spanish or ten other languages on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. It is open now through February 14th. Take it today: www.adams12.org/familysurvey
Community Connects on Tuesday, February 25th at 8:00 am. Our goal with Community Connects is to foster connections between Leroy parents, discuss upcoming events and get more involved in the school community. We’ll have coffee and pastries.
World’s Finest Chocolate Fundraiser
We will have a World’s Finest Chocolate Fundraiser starting February 24th and going through March 17th. Proceeds from this fundraiser will help pay for staff incentives and busing for all field trips. This helps to keep student fees at a minimum. We appreciate your support.
Another Reminder for Safety
Please make sure you are following ALL traffic laws when dropping off and picking up your children. We ask that you use crosswalks and not cross in the middle of the street and respect our neighbors' driveways.
Act Now! Contact your legislators about rejecting Governor Polis’ proposal to cut $13 million from our schools
In an effort to address a $1 billion state shortfall, Governor Jared Polis’ budget proposal, if supported by the Legislature, would amount to a $13 million dollar cut to school funding in the Five Star District.
In order to save money, the governor proposes to do away with “enrollment averaging” when funding schools. Enrollment averaging over several years reduces year-to-year pendulum swings in funding, allowing for thoughtful and informed budget decision-making. Currently, 142 of the 178 school districts in Colorado or 80% are funded on an enrollment average.
If the Legislature supports this cut, for many school districts and schools, it would result in larger class sizes and limit student choice through the elimination of electives and extracurricular programs with modest participation levels.
You can make a difference! Write or call your legislators to voice your concerns. Take action here.
CMAS testing begins the week of April 8th
As a state-wide measure of student achievement and growth, all of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will once again take the state CMAS tests beginning in April. These literacy (, math, science (5th only), and social studies (4th only) assessments are online state assessments in which all students across Colorado participate. Your teacher will provide a detailed testing schedule towards the middle of March. Our testing window is shorter this year so attendance is crucial. In addition to attendance, you can also support your child during this assessment window by getting them to bed early the nights before, building their confidence and self-assurance, and getting plenty of exercise. Look for more information regarding how you can support your child in next month’s newsletter. The biggest change this year is that 4th grade will take one 65 minute Social Studies assessment on top of their ELA and Math assessments. Please reach out to Mr. Riley if you have any questions.
Attendance
We are continuing to celebrate those classrooms and students with the highest attendance. As a reminder, attending school regularly has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life. Let us know how we can best support you and your family so that they can be here at school on time every day. We want your child to be successful!
